About this Costume: I LOVE THIS COSTUME. As if that isn’t apparent considering I have worn it to 5 conventions. Still want to try to get more photos of it at some point though! Eowyn is one of my all time favorite characters, and I want to make all of her costumes from the movies!
This is one of those deceptive costumes that looks a lot easier than it is. I made all of my own patterns for it. The dress is a really cool silk chiffon with a slubby texture like shantung. The dress in the movie was actually a custom made silk chiffon jacquard with an almost paisley design to it, but I could not find anything close to that. The neckline of the dress has shaped pintucks and was bound with bias chiffon, and then embroidered and beaded with gold seed beads.
The vest in the movie was made from suede, but since I am not made of dollars, I choose a nice felted wool and machine embroidered it. Every inch of this vest is embroidered even, the top has a kind of loopy floral design to imitate the floral embossing pattern the original had, the midsection is quilted with a bias grid, and the gold is a combination of 3 different machine embroidery stitches done in gold rayon thread.
