Princess Ruto – Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Completed: February 2012

Worn at: Katsucon 2012

Awards: Best in Show – Katsucon 2012

About this Costume:  A bunch of my friends were doing an Ocarina of Time skit at Katsucon 2012, and I offered to join as Ruto. I had always been interested in making a Ruto costume, but lets face it, its not exactly an easy costume… So I never had the motivation until I joined this skit.

The body suit is made from “Wet-Look” Spandex in a silvery white color, and then I painted it with 4 different shades of blue Floral Spray. I had to have my friend wear the suit while I painted it too! I used 3/4″ paillettes as “scales” and to achieve the green mottled look of her fins. The suit was very interesting to pattern, the feet, gloves, and head are all attached to the suit. The head was built from 5/8″ thick upholstery foam.

For the make up I used a few key items. I covered my eyebrows first with wax, then liquid latex.  I used a white cream base,  followed by Ben Nye AquaColor in a peacock blue. I had several shimmery blue and silver powders which I used to blend and dust on my face. The blue “lipstick” was actually  Maybelline Color Tattoo, Gel Creme Shadow, but it worked extremely well as a lip color!   I am in no way a professional make up artist, so I am really quite proud of the way I did this make up!

I also made the Young Princess Zelda for this group!
